Message from the OFLSE Chair

Where has the time gone?  We cannot believe that the holiday season is already knocking at the door!  As we all prepare for the quickly approaching holiday season both in our personal lives and in our work lives, the OFLSE committee is making your job easier – we have created new cutting edge PSAs for the fire service!  Use them, link to them and get the word out!

A quick peak at what the committee is currently working on:

  • The fall conference review is underway and the planning for the 2018 conference has started. The OAFC has revamped the spring conference and details on the conference will be forth coming.
  • With the success of the two, 1-day workshops (Kitchener and Kingston) offered in 2017 and the feedback from our survey, the OFLSE is planning on expanding each of our workshops to two days in 2018. Again, these workshops will be designed to address training needs identified by the membership – that means YOU.
  • The OFLSE is working on a unique, one-day training opportunity for all fire service members that will be offered next November – stay tuned!
  • The committee has recently met with several stakeholder groups and we are very excited with the relationships that are developing.  These relationships are providing the OFLSE the opportunity to not just grow, but to be seen as content experts and a ‘go to’ for fire safety messaging!

We are also looking for your feedback on the opportunity for the OFLSE to provide a Facebook account. The intent would be to offer a place where members can login with a personal account and be able to discuss, comment and contribute away from any professional restrictions.  What do you think? You are one click away from telling us – click here!

Finally, as we head in to the new year there will be more opportunities to get involved with OFLSE. At the 2018 spring conference we will again be holding elections. Nominations will open in the spring, so you have a few months to think about it – but I encourage you to start thinking about getting involved. Here is a list of the current Executive & their positions.

From our family at the OFLSE to yours, have a fire safe holiday season this year!
